Leaving her homeland in South East Asia was not easy, but Yvonne Sowell has embraced Andalusia with open arms and is the new Marketing and Communications Coordinator of Andalusia Health.
Originally from Labuan, Malaysia, Sowell moved to the United States to be closer to her husband’s family and wanted to start a family of her own. Labuan is a federal territory of Malaysia, located in the west of the island of Borneo.
She graduated in April 2012 from Curtin University in Australia, where she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing and Public Relations.
She said the deciding factor in accepting the job was the fact that Andalusia Santé is the heart of Andalusia. âWe are a vital part of the community. It is my absolute honor to be considered and to have a place in this establishment.
Sowell’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate information from LifePoint (head office in Brentwood, Tennessee) or Andalusia Health that is disseminated to the public in the form of advertisements, websites, newsletters and press releases. âIn addition to that, I will also coordinate with our local organizations to lend a helping hand if needed. “
Building relationships within the community and having the support of colleagues means a lot.
âI come from a small town, so I understand the importance of a strong community bond. It’s a different kind of comfort knowing when your community knows you and supports you. I have come to love all of my colleagues. It’s a big setup, and I intend to slowly get to know everyone better. I love to listen to their life stories and I think they could all write a book of all the things they have done and seen. I appreciate that they took the time to get to know me and make me feel welcome here at Andalusia Health, âshe said.
She feels like she can offer a good point of view to someone who is not from the medical or health sector.
âI want to understand what’s going on and look for answers. I understand that most of the time, it is an overwhelming experience to find a doctor in the care and follow-up of patients. I want to make sure that if they needed to know something, it can be researched with easily accessible materials and information, âSowell said.
She resides in Andalusia with her husband Adam Sowell and they have a six year old son, John David.
âI am new to health and everyone in Andalucia Health and LifePoint has been very accommodating giving me the time to learn and adapt. It’s also wonderful that I’ve made lifelong friends along the way and feel like maybe I found my place in Andalucia.
