UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Two years ago, Cody Brutlag and Matthew Kreider were among the first students to enroll in Penn State’s new online Masters program in Marketing Analysis and Analysis. On May 7, they will be among the first graduates of the program.

“It’s such a unique experience to be among the first to graduate from the program,” said Brutlag. “I had no idea when I signed up that this was a new program. It’s a testament to the quality of the university and its professors.”

Brutlag is director of marketing for a nonprofit healthcare system in California and oversees the strategy and execution of marketing initiatives for the division.

He said he had always considered getting a master’s degree, but his busy life and career would put him off. When five of his colleagues decided to go back to school, Brutlag said it was his catalyst for making his own educational goals a priority.

Brutlag’s undergraduate degree is in communications, and since he had no training in marketing before enrolling online through World Campus, Brutlag said he wanted a program that would complement his skills. After researching his options, Brutlag said the online program was exactly what he was looking for.

“I thought it would make me a stronger marketer, help me think more strategically, and most importantly, teach me the process of data analysis that would help me get solid, insight-based insights. data for my organization, ”Brutlag said. “Having entered the marketing arena on the content creation and development side, I was definitely not a ‘numbers’ guy. This program was exactly what I needed to be.”

The online master’s program in Marketing Analytics and Analysis was launched in 2019 through a partnership between the Penn State World Campus and the Penn State Smeal College of Business.

Over the course of 30 credits, including culminating experience, the program is designed to teach students the theoretical foundations, analytical tools, and critical thinking skills to effectively apply data to make strategic marketing decisions.

Students can learn to integrate, visualize and leverage data to generate meaningful insights in the areas of digital marketing communications, customer experience and lifecycle, and brand management.

“This program was developed on the basis of an overwhelming market demand to help marketers understand how to turn raw data into actionable insights on a wide range of marketing topics,” said J. Andrew Petersen, Professor marketing associate and program director. . “We have been extremely fortunate to have so many high quality students like Cody and Matthew who have excelled throughout the masters program and are ready to apply what they have learned right away to advance their careers in marketing. “

Matthew Kreider said he knew he needed to go back to school when he realized he wouldn’t get the career advancement he wanted without additional education, and for him Being raised a Penn State fan made the decision to attend World Campus a non-brainer.

Kreider’s wife was pregnant when he decided to go back to school, so he started by enrolling in the online Graduate Certificate in Marketing Analysis program. When the masters program was announced later, he said he knew he had to continue.

Despite the challenges of balancing his education, career, and growing family, Kreider said he knew he made the right choice to return to school when he made significant progress in his career. career before graduation.

“I knew I would have a lot of it on my plate, but I took the challenge head on and I’m glad I did,” Kreider said. “If I had waited to go back to school until my son was born, I would probably feel like I wouldn’t have enough time for school. And now, given that I had an immediate impact on my career even before I graduated, I know it was all worth it. “

Kreider is the member information manager for an organization in Arlington, Virginia.

Kreider and Brutlag agreed that their continuing education at Penn State World Campus has proven to be useful and are proud to be among the first graduates of the program.

“I am thrilled,” Kreider said. “This is a historic milestone that cannot be undone. I believe this program is poised to expand rapidly and I am happy to be at the forefront of this field of study.”
