The idea for Tamien Park began in 1995 when the specific plan for Tamien Station, which identified how to meet the needs of park residents, was approved. Community meetings to develop the park’s master plan began in 2009. The 3.5-acre park is the product of a $ 3 million grant from the state’s housing-related parks program in 2014 and 2015.
The second and final phase of Tamien Park adds a multi-purpose turning terrain with a jogging track around the perimeter, an outdoor stage and fitness area, a picnic area, additional benches, seating walls and landscaping. The first phase was completed in 2017 and included a toilet, playground, basketball court, volleyball court and site furniture.
The park is a collaboration between the municipal councilor Raul Peralez, the parks, the PRNS, the public works department and a member of the Tamien district.
The PRNS Urban Sports Program is now accepting reservations for the multipurpose turf field from June to August 2021. For more information and applications, visit the department’s webpage.
