Hideo Kojima almost included ads in a Nintendo DS game in order to lower the price, but ultimately decided against it.

Kojima revealed his early intentions for Lunar Knights, a 2007 Nintendo DS JRPG, on Twitter. He planned to use the top screen of the Nintendo DS to display advertisements.

“We have tuned the top screen of the Boktai DS version [to] a “pseudo-sun”. What I wanted to do was put ‘corporate ads’ on the top screen and use the revenue from those ads to lower the price of the (almost free) packaged product,” Kojima tweeted.

“I gave up because there weren’t many supporters and there were a lot of hurdles to overcome, but it’s not an uncommon project now.”
