This powerful word FREE has undoubtedly caught your eye. This column is about free marketing ideas, strategies, and tips.

The marketing process bores most people. Business owners want to increase traffic, sales, and profits, but typically don’t want to invest in the research, experience, and hard work needed to create those results.

With over 30 years in the trenches (including 10 as the director of a New York advertising agency), it’s my job to translate your marketing needs into compelling business realities.

Whether you’re investing in a postcard or a new website, planning every marketing dollar is essential. Hence this public service.

We’ll explore opportunities, debunk myths, and dig deeper into all things marketing. We’ll also come across some hackneyed reasons not to spread the word, including:

  • I lack competition;
  • Marketing is not important;
  • I cannot oversee the process;

and my favorite

  • Marketing is a waste of money.

Guess what? These excuses usually come from those who complain the most about the poor quality of their business.

American architect Daniel Burnham said, “Make no small plans, for they have no magic to stir the blood of man.” This column will follow that rule, exploring plans, promotions, advertising, and anything else I can think of starting with P.

Hopefully you won’t be irritated…and I won’t be pompous.
