When studying art history, fauvism and cubism influenced me the most. When artists are pushing
themselves to their intellectual and physical limits you have to take notice. When creating my art I am always attempting to experiment, always pushing, trying to do things I haven't done before. I feel like an artist can't learn anything if they are just creating art in ways they are comfortable with, or techniques that they have already used. I am in a constant state of pushing and experimenting and using techniques that I have not used before. I put fear aside and put everything on the line. As an artist and a person I have the confidence to know that the final result is going to be visually stimulating, functional and powerful.
The fundamentals of art techniques are extremely important to the continuing development and progression of being an artist. I try to carry a sketchbook everywhere I go. My G3 PowerBook laptop and a Wacom tablet acts as a digital drawing station when I am not in my studio. When I am drawing I try to forget about creating a pretty picture. That is not what technique is about. I do a lot of analyzing, looking, and stripping away objects layer by layer. In a three dimensional sense. The outer surface of what you are drawing is directly effected by the inner structures.
